Booking

Online only, with prior registration and up to 10 tickets. After paying you must go into your profile and personalise each ticket. No changes or refunds; if it closes for bad weather, you swap the date in your personal area, subject to availability. Minimum age: 8, with ID.

Opening hours

Entry slots from 9:00 until 14:50 or 17:20, depending on the season. You must be at the entrance at least 30 minutes before.

Closed

Mondays, except the odd selected Monday, and 24, 25 and 31 December and 1 January.

One way only, from Ardales to El Chorro

The route is linear and only runs north to south: you go in at Ardales and come out at El Chorro. It's 7.7 km in total, of which 2.9 km are walkways and the rest access paths. The organisers estimate three to four hours and ask you to be at the entrance at least 30 minutes before your slot. From the Ardales car park it's a 20 or 35-minute walk to the entrance, depending on the path, so add that when you pick your time.

Where to leave the car

Reception Centre (€2 a day): park, take the bus to the entrance and ride it back from El Chorro.
Ardales car park (€2): walk to the entrance and return by bus when you finish.
El Chorro: park beside the exit, take the bus up, and your car is right there at the end.

The bus costs €2.50, isn't included, and the driver only takes cash. If you can, buy it with your ticket on the official website.

Without a car

There are regional trains to El Chorro, but you have to line up Renfe's times with the shuttle and your slot. That's why the easiest option is a day trip from Málaga or the Costa del Sol, although these cost several times the entry price: you're paying for transport and a guide.

With a car, use the official website

If you have a car, the official website wins: €10 on your own or €18 with an official guide, in Spanish and English, in groups of 30 at most. The website warns that it doesn't guarantee tickets from unauthorised sellers. Tours on Tiqets and GetYourGuide are the alternative when places run out or you want transport.

Buying on the official website involves a step people forget: go into your profile and personalise each ticket before you download it.

If the weather turns

In scattered showers you can still go, with a raincoat, because umbrellas aren't allowed. Strong wind can close the route, even on the day. There are no refunds: if it closes, you swap the date in your personal area, subject to availability. Check the website that same morning.
