Aqueduct, cathedral and Alcázar in a day

Segovia has three clear sights: the aqueduct, the cathedral and the Alcázar. The high-speed AVE train from Madrid takes under 30 minutes, but the station is 6 km from the centre, so allow for the city bus.

The natural order is to start at the aqueduct, cross the old town and finish at the Alcázar. Avoid it between 11:00 and 13:30, its busiest time, and buy ahead at weekends: the ticket with the Tower of Juan II tends to sell out.

What costs nothing

The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo Esteban Vicente is free. It closes on Mondays and may close while exhibitions are being installed, so check its website first. The Alcázar has a free slot on Tuesdays from 14:00 to 16:00, for EU citizens only and at the ticket office.

If you want things explained, compare the walking tours that include the Alcázar before buying a standalone ticket.
