Mondays are for the gardens

The palace closes every Monday of the year. The Príncipe and Isla gardens open daily and cost nothing, so a Monday trip still works, as long as you don't mind missing the interiors.

Who gets the free afternoons

Wednesday and Sunday afternoons from 15:00 are free for EU citizens, EU residents and EU work-permit holders, and Ibero-American citizens. Bring your document. Last entry is 17:00 from October to March and 18:00 from April to September.

With a €9 ticket the saving is small, and an afternoon leaves less time for the gardens. If you're coming from Madrid, a full day with a paid ticket usually gets you more. Large families, working teachers, unemployed people and people with a disability of 33% or more get in free at any time.

The Casa del Labrador is extra

It stands in the Jardín del Príncipe, costs €10 and isn't part of the free entry. It only opens Friday to Sunday and on public holidays, so if you want to see it, go on one of those days.

Official guide or a reseller's

The official guide supplement is €8 and the audio guide €5. Resellers sell similar options, so compare the total price and the terms.
