Getting a free Picasso ticket

Free places come out four days before your visit, at 10:00. For a Thursday, look on the Sunday before. For the first Sunday of the month, look on the Wednesday. Without a booking, you can't count on getting in.

Capacity is limited, so set an alarm. On Thursdays you have three hours, and the ticket office closes half an hour earlier.

Check the hours on the museum website before you plan around them, because they can change.

The museum's own guided tour costs less

Resellers don't sell a plain entry ticket to the Picasso Museum in Barcelona. What they sell is guided tours with entry, which are a good answer if you want times the museum doesn't offer.

The museum runs its own guided tour for €6 on top of the ticket, and that works out cheaper. On its calendar, the only session in Spanish is Sunday at 12:00. The rest of the week they're in English, with a few in French and Catalan on Sundays. If you're late you lose your place, so be at Montcada 17 ten minutes before.

When Articket beats a single ticket

For €38, Articket gets you into six art museums over 12 months. It pays off from three: Picasso, MNAC and the Joan Miró Foundation cost more bought separately. With one or two, it doesn't.

The free-entry list is long, with teachers holding a Catalan government card, people with a disability and guides among others. Check it before you pay.
