Free cathedral on Tuesday mornings
Since 19 May 2026, free entry has been on Tuesdays only, 9:30–11:25, through the Puerta del Sarmental. Tickets are handed out at the ticket office until 11:15 and can't be reserved, so allow extra time. Normal tourist visits start at 11:30.
Outside that window, general tickets are bought online. Reduced tickets are verified at the ticket office on the day: €5 for people with a disability, large families, officially unemployed people and students aged 19 to 27. The multimedia guide is free with the app, and a radio guide costs €1. You can take photos without flash or tripod.
There are no tourist visits inside during the main church services. Stella is the night-time visit, lasting about sixty minutes.
The Antonio López doors
The project's website shows the doors in the Cathedral Museum: three bronze doors on display since 30 November 2025, ahead of a decision on where they'll finally go. The Cathedral Chapter has expressed a wish to place them on the Santa María façade. If they're your only reason for coming, ask at the ticket office first whether they're still on show.
Museum of Human Evolution: choose your hour
The MEH, as the museum is known, costs €6, or €4 reduced. It opens Tuesday to Friday 10:00–14:30 and 16:30–20:00, Saturdays 10:00–20:00 and Sundays 10:00–15:00. It closes on Mondays, with exceptions. Go in at least half an hour before closing.
It's free all day on Wednesdays, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 19:00. Also free, among others: under-8s, over-65s, pensioners, large families and Carné Joven youth card holders. Discounted tickets aren't sold online.
On a Tuesday you can do both visits for nothing: get your cathedral ticket before 11:15 and go to the MEH from 19:00.
Atapuerca is a separate outing
The archaeological sites aren't at the museum. They cost €8, are visited in groups with an accredited guide, and can't be reached by private vehicle, except by coach. Booking in advance is required. The CAYAC, the access centre for the sites, is in Ibeas de Juarros, 14 km from Burgos, and the CAREX, the experimental archaeology centre, is in Atapuerca, 20 km away: confirm which one your visit leaves from.
